The marks of time
In The Old Man and the Sea, Hemingway wrote:
“Waiting, too, is a kind of faith; the sea’s love is too deep, and time too shallow.”
For everyone, time is the only truly fair unit of measure.
Whether lived through or longed for,
the marks of time bear quiet witness,
and the process of waiting slowly becomes a kind of faith and persistence.
Through this issue of HOLO Monthly, following the marks of time,
we are honoured to work with the Neihu Senior Service Center and the Taiwan Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
After a team of photographers, makeup artists and retouchers moved in,
they recorded all this flowing time, up close, inside a camera lens.
In Taiwan’s professional talent market, whether in photography, makeup or retouching,
craft is often passed from masters and elders to young apprentices,
inherited, learned and renewed through hands-on experience —
and we’re about to open our first overseas store in November: the Thailand store.
HOLO+FACE is like an enormous stage,
carrying the dreams and visions of many artists,
moving forward by seeking difference within sameness, and sameness within difference.
May we use language, lenses, makeup brushes and retouching pens
to record the creases of the years — and, through the marks of time, honour how precious each life is.
